“. . . life amounts to no more than one drop in a limitless ocean.” [father-in-law states]
“Yet what is any ocean, but a multitude of drops?”–Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell
I have been married to this book, Cloud Atlas, for a good 2 weeks. The book is so intense, thought-provoking and, much like an onion, full of layers upon layers of underlying themes oozing to come out as you peel each new surface. I am glad I have had the honor of reading and discussing it in a class setting because you have brilliant minds coming together providing their insight. Amazing!
This quote is, much like the book, thought-provoking. We are so tiny, compared to the universe, much like a simple drop of water, gathering together into an ocean of nothingness, no individuality because water, in an ocean, is all one. What do you gather from this quote? While we are a single drop, we can make a change, we can embrace our individuality, we can make a difference, but as we mesh with the rest of the drops, we become a force of strength, much like the ocean, deep and endless.
Have a great day and I hope today’s food for thought wasn’t too out there.
