Fun Fact Friday: 4/3/15-Men and Women weigh moral consequences differently

Did you know men and women weigh moral dilemmas in a different manner?

I was driving and heard this on NPR news. They questioned both men and women on their actions if Adolf Hitler were in the room next door, with an unlocked door. How they would react up the fate of mankind, or, WWII were up to them. It turns out that women would think twice before killing him to prevent WWII and men, however, would simply do it. Interesting! They mentioned two things that stood out at me:

They found that men and women both calculate consequences such as lives lost. But women are more likely to feel conflicted over what to do. Having to commit murder is more likely to push them toward letting Hitler live.

“Women seem to be more likely to have this negative, emotional, gut-level reaction to causing harm to people in the dilemmas, to the one person, whereas men were less likely to express this strong emotional reaction to harm,” Rebecca Friesdorf
